Ok, So Heres my Dilemma. want Bike for college. To save Gas?

by admin on January 23, 2010

So, I live in Indianapolis, IN. I’m attending college in Savannah, Georgia. I would love to have a motorcycle to get around down there. Especially with the lovely gas prices we are required to pay.
I’m looking for some local (INDIANA) public auctions, a Salvage lot, repo sales/ cheaper bikes. I would prefer a sportier looking biker. I’ve been looking at the Suzuki GSX650F
and the SV650’s. Ninjas, katana’s. i actually like the ***** style of the Buell Blast. Something that would look good.
I have no problem putting in work on the bike.. so if anyone has any information about any place, auction, person, that could help a kid out, that would be much appreciated.

As a southerner ( i live in florida) I will tell you you dont want to entirely get rid of your car. I moved from ohio last year and thought i would want to be outside all the time and the weather would be great, instead during the summer there are thunderstorms quite frequently, or it is so humid and hot its unbearable. I would recommend buying a vespa like scooter for around campus to save some dough on gas. I bought mine off and it is fabulous. I get about 75 MPG and it zips me back and forth across campus very quickly! they are on sale right now too, so maybe that will help

You are asking to buy problems if you roll the dice at an auction or salvage lot. Buy something that runs decent from a private party. If you really want to save gas and money the 250 ninja can be had cheap and it will destroy a Blast or even an 883 sportster. Try Craigslist.com or cycletrader.com

In my experience the best thing about having a bike on campus is the parking…the best spots everywhere for much cheaper parking permit, many hours saved walking over a semester.

But consider this:
you buy a used bike (650) for $5000. It gets 50 mpg, if your current car gets 20 mpg, it will take you 37500 miles driven @ $4 gas to pay for the cost of the bike.

if you want to get around town cheap forget the Blast and get a 50cc scooter
buy in Savannah so you don’t have to move whatever you get

if you want a Blast, get one and **** up the cost
motorcycles are NOT cheap, they use less gas, yes, but that’s it they use more tires, chains, oil changes … you name it, they need it
